I reached out to Sandi Sumner, president of the Seaside Gardeners of Squantum, and she shares: "This year's tree, although small, is now a permanently planted tree that will only get larger in the years to come. In the past, there has been a newly cut tree each year that the City put up for us. The Garden Club negotiated each year to get a permanent tree planted and the City had the funds to do so this year. The funds also will cover the new landscaping of the triangle in the Spring." Thanks, Sandi! Looking forward to seeing the tree grow in the years ahead! This year's tree seems particularly without stature. I can only assume that this is about cost. Someone told me there was a fund that enabled the purchase of the tree. Might funds be needed to increase what can be spent each year on the tree? Perhaps the Squantum Scoop can get the scoop on this story and let us know.
